LLETZ Procedure (or LEEP)

The term LLETZ stands for Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone of the cervix. The transformation zone is the area where the abnormal cells come from. This procedure is performed in the rooms under local anaesthetic. There is usually some discomfort associated with the injections of local anaesthetic but no pain with the procedure. For 2-3 weeks you will have some discharge (vaginally) and only pads are to be used.

If you were to bleed heavily after this procedure (heavier than a period with bright/fresh blood loss) then it is essential for you to be seen. Contact Dr Patton's rooms in business hours or if outside business hours present to Rockingham General Hospital or the Peel Health Campus emergency department, where a doctor will assess you or Dr Patton will be contacted.
